"Is Your Vehicle Road Ready?"

Welcome back, friends, to another episode of Healing Waters. Today, we are delving into another powerful and thought-provoking chapter from my book, Journey to Promise, as we explore how our spiritual journey is akin to preparing for a road trip. We will discuss how faith, the Word of God, and the necessary tools for this journey are much like the components required for a successful trip. Let's get started!

The Road Trip Analogy

When you think about preparing for a road trip, what is the first thing that comes to mind? A roadworthy vehicle, fuel, keys, and a map. Similarly, in our spiritual journey. Our faith is the vehicle God has given us to maneuver, overcome, and succeed in this world. The Word of God is the fuel and map we need to sustain our faith and guide us through life. Our keys represent the tools we need to keep moving forward. Just like a vehicle needs regular maintenance, fueling, and occasional repairs to stay on the road, our faith also needs attention.

Just as cars require regular checks for safety, appearance, and performance, we also need to inspect our inner lives. Every human has needs, including a deep need for love, acceptance, significance, and stability. These needs can be fulfilled through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible is the map and the fuel that repairs and strengthens us when we feel broken and lost.

My Journey of Faith

Let me share a little about my journey. In my early twenties, life was tough. I struggled with depression, and pain and regret were competing for the BFF award in my life. I realized that I could no longer continue living my life the same way. I needed help, and I turned to Jesus. I took the childhood Bible my mother had given me and began to read it, memorize it, and ask God to help me. That is when everything started to change.

God's words transformed my heart, gave me a new perspective, and helped me make better decisions. Fear and insecurity were evicted from my heart. I started walking in peace. I did not stay the same, and life did not stay the same either. I am deeply grateful for the ongoing transformation I continue to experience through Jesus.

The Power of Faith

Friends, faith is an essential part of our spiritual journey. Merriam-Webster defines faith as "complete trust" and "belief in and loyalty to God." In Hebrews 11:1, the Bible says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." To walk with Jesus, we must trust Him, even when we do not have all the answers. Furthermore, Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that "without faith, it is impossible to please God."

Faith in God is the key to receiving all of His promises. Hebrews 12:2 says that He is the "author and finisher of our faith," which means God has equipped each of us with the ability to believe. It is a choice. You can choose to exercise your faith, believe what God says in His Word, and then trust in God's guidance for your life, or you can continue to do things your way. God is a gentleman; he will not force His will or blessing upon you.

The Importance of the Church and the Word of God

In this journey, we need support. We need a place where we can grow, a place where God's Word is preached and taught, and a community where we can use our gifts to glorify God. That is where the church comes in.

Psalm 92:13-15 says that those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish. A healthy church environment is essential for strengthening our faith. A community of believers helps us stay encouraged and accountable on this journey of faith.

And let's not forget the power of the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." To progress on this journey to promise, we need to hear God's Word preached and take it to heart.

Faith in Action – Abraham's Example

Abraham, the Father of Faith, is an excellent example of faith in action. In Genesis 12:1-3, God makes a powerful promise to Abram (who later becomes Abraham). God tells him to leave everything he knows and go to a land that God will show him. He promises to bless Abraham and make him a great nation. Abraham obeys, and as a result, God fulfills His promise.

Abraham's journey demonstrates that when we step out in faith and trust in God, He will keep His promises. Just as Abraham did, when we trust and obey, God rewards our faithfulness.

Your Vehicle of Faith – Keeping it Road Ready

Just as a car requires regular maintenance, your spiritual life also needs attention. If your vehicle of faith is not running well, do not keep driving without checking the roadmap. Find out what God's Word says about your situation and give Jesus Christ the chance to repair your heart and recalibrate your position in life.
